Material Testing & Metallurgy Excellence
At Milestone Gears, quality begins at the molecular level. Our in-house Material Testing and Metallurgical Lab ensures that every component meets the most stringent mechanical and metallurgical standards.
Steel testing starts with chemical analysis using an Optical Emission Spectrometer, capable of detecting up to 25 elements, supported by ultrasonic bar testing and portable XRF analysis to verify material integrity and compliance.
The sample preparation section is equipped with abrasive cutting machines, belt grinders and automatic/manual moulding and polishing units, ensuring precise and contamination-free specimen preparation for reliable results.
Our Jominy end-quench apparatus, with a calibrated muffle furnace, facilitates controlled hardenability testing and accurate material response studies.
For mechanical testing, we employ NABL-accredited digital Universal Testing Machines (UTM) and Impact Testing Machines to assess strength, ductility and toughness comprehensively.
Hardness testing is carried out using automatic Micro-Vickers (0.1–1.0 Kgf), digital Rockwell and computerized Brinell hardness testers, along with portable LEEB and Ultrasonic testers for on-site validation.
Our Metallography & Inspection Division features an automatic six-sample disc polishing machine and metallurgical and stereo-zoom microscopes with magnification up to 1000X, enabling detailed microstructural analysis and failure investigations.
Additionally, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) capabilities — including Ultrasonic Inspection and Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) systems — allow for the detection of internal and surface discontinuities without affecting component integrity.
Through this comprehensive testing infrastructure, Milestone Gears ensures every product is validated for strength, reliability and performance — from raw material to final component.

Milestone Gears’ material testing facilities are designed to ensure the highest standards of quality, durability and consistency across all manufactured components.
In the sample preparation section, the facility features precision equipment such as abrasive cutting machines, automatic moulding and polishing machines, belt grinders, and sample mounting presses. These enable accurate and contamination-free specimen preparation for subsequent testing and analysis.
The heat treatment section includes a muffle furnace designed for Jominy end-quench and press quenching operations, facilitating controlled hardenability and material response studies.
For mechanical testing, Milestone Gears employs cutting-edge instruments such as an automatic Micro-Vickers hardness tester (0.1 Kgf to 1.0 Kgf), digital Rockwell hardness testers, a universal testing machine and an impact testing machine to evaluate mechanical strength and performance parameters comprehensively.
The metallography and inspection division is equipped with an automatic six-sample disc polishing machine, metallurgical and stereo zoom microscopes, a three-gas analyzer and spectrometers. Together, these tools ensure detailed structural analysis and precise chemical composition verification.
In addition, non-destructive testing facilities such as ultrasonic inspection machines and magnetic particle inspection (MPI) systems are deployed to detect internal and surface flaws without compromising the integrity of the parts.
